Paws Up!Our Salute to the Awesome!
From Solid Cat: 80 - Foodies Aaron Hunt In a sport that is notorious for overexaggeration and diving (officially, "simulation of contact") to draw calls, world football saw something refreshing recently. Aaron Hunt, of the German team Werder Bremen, went down in the penalty area, and the referee issued a penalty kick. But Hunt quickly went to the referee and said, in essence, "there's no foul. I went down on my own." Read more about it, and see the video at MLSsoccer.com here. To Aaron Hunt, for showing us fair play and sportsmanship is alive and well, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 79 - Overindulgence Joe Bell & the 408K Race runners The 408K Race in San Jose is already an inspiring event. The annual 8-kilometer run benefits the Pat Tillman Foundation, which funds scholarships for military veterans. This year, runners made it all the more memorable with a spontaneous tribute to a 95-year-old World War II veteran who had come out in his full uniform to cheer them. The runners showed their appreciation for Bell's long-ago service, detouring from the course to shake his hand. Read more about it, and see the video at San Jose Mercury News here. To Joe Bell & the 408K Race runners, for reminding us that, sometimes, spontaneous humanity happens, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 78 - Raccoon with a Gun carpetsforairports.com We all have our hobbies. If your hobby has been admiring and documenting the carpeting inside world airports, then I've got a website for you. Check out carpetsforairports.com here. To carpetsforairports.com, for finding a need, and filling it (despite the obscurity of it), we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 77 - Girl Scout Cookies Danielle Lei It's all about, "location, location, location," as 13 year-old Danielle Lei sold 117 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in 2 hours, but set up shop outside of a medical marijuana dispensery. Stoners love Tagalongs, apparently. Read more about it at LATimes.com here. To Danielle Lei, for displaying fantastic entrepreneurial skills, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 76 - Fo Shizzle Dale Hansen Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen offers an on-air editorial about Michael Sam, who announced he is gay before the NFL Draft. And what does the old white guy from Texas say? The sagest words possible and he pretty much crushed any argument against being openly gay in the league. See the clip at YouTube here. To Dale Hansen, for saying what needed to be said, with eloquence and tact, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 75 - International Incident David Nderitu A 16 year old boy from Kenya has transformed his life by designing and selling jewellery made from discarded computers, it appears. David Nderitu used to be homeless, but today he turns a healthy profit by crafting earrings from computer circuit boards. Now at school, and having obtained an official welding qualification, Nderitu is able to create around 60 pieces every two weeks. They sell for up to 300 shillings (roughly $2) locally, or more than three times that abroad. Read more at Kenya's Daily Nation here. To David Nderitu, for taking initiative and pulling himself up by his bootstraps, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 74 - Moose Knuckle Nils Jangen An off-the-wall advert designed to sell an old car helped unemployed Swede, Nils Jangen, land his dream job. With his savings running dry and no job in sight, he had no choice but to sell his old car. The advert featured Lord of the Rings wizard Saruman and actor David Hasselhoff, and described the car as being "hand-forged in the darkest of Japanese industries" by "the Saruman of carmakers". See the ad, and read more at BBCNews.com here. To Nils Jangen, for showing us that you have to be creative to land a job nowadays, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 73 - No Pants Are The Best Pants No Pants Metro Day Yes, people do ride mass transit in Los Angeles. And once a year, they do it without pants, as part of an international improvisation event called the "No Pants Subway Ride," (or "No Pants Metro Day" in L.A.). The theater group Improv Everywhere started the event 13 years ago in New York. It has since spread to more than 60 cities across the world. Read more at LATimes.com here. To the organizers of No Pants Metro Day, for reminding us no parts are the best pants, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 72 - The Chivas Diatribe 7 Wheel Wonders You know what would be cool. Take a three-wheeled motorcycle... and have it pull a carriage... and bedazzled that ride out! It's a fun, festive concept called 7 Wheel Wonders Check them out at 7WheelWonders.com here. To 7 Wheel Wonders, for flashing some originality, we salute you. PAWS UP! From Solid Cat: 71 - with Special Guest, Big Daddy Dave An unknown witty nerd While dining at one of our favorite restaurants, Top Round Roast Beef, the Space Cowboy's phone started a search for Wi-Fi connections, and came across, hands down, the best name for a Wi-Fi router ever. It was named: "Pretty Fly for a Wifi." Nice. To this unknown witty nerd, for showing us creativity is alive and well, we salute you. PAWS UP!
