From Solid Cat: 60 - Second XXX Clip Show
This is That
The CBC Radio program, This is That, is a show of satire that pokes fun at everyone. Consider it a combination of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Onion. On a recent episode, they ran a story, "To ensure every child wins, Ontario athletic association removes ball from soccer."

The problem? Many people thought this was real news. Unleash the Twitter rage!

Read the initial piece at CBC News here.

Read about the reaction to that piece at CBC News here.

To This is That, for doing your job a little too well, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 59 - Titty Poppins
Brent
Brent, a retired laboratory chimpanzee, was the top vote-getter in an online chimp art contest organized by the Humane Society of the United States, which announced the results Thursday. He won $10,000 for the Chimp Haven sanctuary in northwest Louisiana.

The 37-year-old primate applies color with his tongue instead of a brush.

Read more about it at The Mainichi here.

To Brent, for winning more art contests (one) than most people we know, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 58 - Sexytime
A DOUBLE PAWS UP THIS WEEK!

Tadahiro Kanemasu
Dressed as a green Power Ranger, Tadahiro Kanemasu waits by the stairs of a Tokyo subway station, lending his strength to the elderly, passengers lugging heavy packages and mothers with baby strollers.

The slender 27-year-old has spent three months being a good Samaritan at the station on Tokyo's western side. Like many in the city, it has neither elevators nor escalators and a long flight of dimly lit stairs.

Read more about it at Reuters here.

To Tadahiro Kanemasu, for being a true hero, we salute you. PAWS UP!

George Aldrich
From his laboratory deep in the New Mexico desert, George Aldrich checks glue, pens, foam and spacesuits for the slightest toxic whiff before they are sent into space on manned missions.

He describes himself as a "nasalnaut" - a human guinea pig with a highly sensitised nose whose mission is to ensure that NASA flights aren't aborted because of noxious odours in space.

Read more about it at The Telegraph here.

To George Aldrich, for going where no nose has gone before, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 57 - Lionel Ritchie
India
In a recent survey, India showed it likes reading by clocking in an average of over 10 1/2 hours of reading per week. Yay, literacy!

Read more about it at the L.A. Times here.

To India, for following the Solid Cat decree of opening up a damn book, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 56 - Vegas
The Bakersfield Condor (the real bird)
The Bakersfield Condors are a minor-league hockey club out of the ECHL. During the pregame, they bring out an actual condor during the National Anthem. Today, the condor was having none of it.

See the clip at YouTube here.

To the Condor, for owning the day, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 55 - Burning Hulk of an Escort
Arsenal's "Running Man"
During Arsenal FC's tour of Asia, the team bus was on it's way to a famous pagoda in Hanoi, Vietnam. And along the way, a young Vietnamese man ran alongside the bus. For like 5 miles.

His determination was rewarded when the team invited him on the bus.

See the clip at Arsenal.com here.

To the "Running Man," for showing determination (and speed), we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 54 - James Hinchcliffe
The KTVU Pranksters
I don't know who pulled this prank off, but it lead to one of most epic fails. A fail of biblical proportions.

I've termed it, pulling a "Ron Burgandy." Yes, there is Sum Ting Wong. All I can say is Ho Lee Fuk.

See the clip at YouTube here.

To those who pulled the prank on KTVU, for the sheer epicness of it, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 53 - So-Called Shandy
Joey Chestnut
Joey Chestnut downed 69 franks Thursday and devoured his own record in the Nathan Famous Fourth of July International hot dog eating contest.

The total beat his personal best by one wiener. Last year, Chestnut, the No. 1-ranked competitive eater in the world, won the competition with 62 hot dogs.

Find out more at ESPN here.

To Joey Chestnut, for... just wow, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 52 - One Year Anniversary
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
Science fiction fans are used to the ease with which Captain Kirk gives the order for "shields up" and the crew of the Enterprise being protected instantly from the hostility of space. Scientists at the UK's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory have been testing a Star Trek-style lightweight system to protect astronauts and spacecraft components from harmful radiation and working with colleagues in America to design a concept spaceship called Discovery that could take astronauts to the Moon or Mars.

Find out more at CNN here.

To the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, for turning science fiction into science fact, we salute you. PAWS UP!

From Solid Cat: 51 - Mo' with Zo
Dark MOFO festival-goers
It was two degrees and the water temperature was about 12 degrees when about 350 people took off their clothes and dived into the river at Sandy Bay for a swim. The swim ended up being more of dip, with participants only allowed to stay in the water for a short time to prevent hypothermia.

Read about it at Australia's ABC News here.

To the nude and prude swimmers at Dark MOFO, for being far braver than I, we salute you. PAWS UP!
